North Wall of the House ChambersThe chamber houses one of the two legislative bodies of Utah, the House of Representatives. It is where members of the House meet to discuss and vote on potential legislation. There are currently 75 representatives who serve for two years, West Wall of the House Chamberseach elected from a district of approximately 30,000 citizens. The House serves as a law making body alongside the Senate. The House debates and votes on bills, independently from the Senate, in order to form new laws for the state. In the west cove is Vincent Aderente’s The Dream of Brigham Young and in the east is A. E. Forringer’s Discovery of the Great Salt Lake. In 2006, two new murals were commissioned for the north and south coves. Logan, Utah painter David Koch was chosen to interpret historic events for the new murals; Seraph Young, becomes the first woman to vote in the United States; the Engen brothers build their first ski jump, a signal that outdoor recreation became the primary economic engine of the state.
