This chamber houses one of the two law-making bodies of Utah, the Senate. It is where senators meet to discuss and vote on potential legislation. Utah’s Senate is composed of 29 senators who serve four year terms. Each represents a constituency of about 80,000 citizens. The Senate serves as a law-making body alongside the House. To form new laws for the state, the Senate debates and votes on bills, independently from the House. Logan, Utah artists Keith Bond was commissioned in 2006 to paint landscapes of northern Utah (Orchards along the Foothills) of the Wasatch Mountains and the stunning red rocks and ancient ruins of the southern Utah deserts (Ancestral Home). The multiple paneled landscape on the north wall of the Chamber was painted by artists A.B. Wright and Lee Greene Richards. The Senate meets along with the House in annual sessions for 45 days during the months of January through March.
