3 Types of Field Trips, 1 Unforgettable Experience

Self-Guided Field Trip

Self-guided tours may be scheduled anytime during Capitol operating hours. 

School groups taking self-guided tours qualify for transportation reimbursement. Please complete the Schedule Your Field Trip form to qualify.

There is no limit to the number of guests per group for self-guided tours.

Schedule Your Field Trip

Guided Field Trip

Guided tours begin on the hour from 10:00am to 3:00pm, Monday – Friday, with the exception of state holidays.

Guided tours are offered for fourth graders and up. Younger groups are encouraged to book self-guided tours.

No guided tours are offered November 27-November 29, 2024 and December 9, 2024 - January 6, 2025

Tours are approximately 40 to 45 minutes long.

Groups must make a tour reservation using the tour request form below to guarantee availability.

Virtual Field Trip

Virtual tours are offered over Zoom with a provided guide who will show the group each space you would see in person!

Virtual tours are offered for fourth graders and up.

Reservations are required for all virtual tours, and a tour request form must be submitted a minimum of two weeks in advance of desired date.

Virtual tours are offered for groups of 10 or more. 

No virtual tours are offered November 27-November 29, 2024, December 9, 2024 -January 6, 2025 and January 21 - March 7, 2025

Bus Funding

  • The Capitol Preservation Board is thrilled to share good news about ongoing legislative transportation funding for tours during the 2024-2025 school year. The Capitol Preservation Board has received $250,000.00 to assist in reimbursement of transportation costs incurred by visiting the Utah State Capitol.
  • Educators may bring students to the Capitol during the legislative session, or anytime during the school year. Self-guided and guided field trips qualify for reimbursement of transportation costs.
  • To qualify, please submit a Schedule Your Field Trip form.

Where to have lunch on your Field Trip

The student lunch area is available for school groups to reserve during their field trips to the Capitol. - unavailable during the 2024-2025 season

  • Please complete a self-guided or guided field trip form to book the lunch area for your visit.
  • It is located on the first floor of the Capitol between suites 110 and 120.
  • The space can be reserved for up to 2 hours per group.
  • The area seats 48 guests.
  • Guidelines for usage will be sent with your field trip reservation.

Parking and Entrance

Visitors should enter the Capitol through the east doors. A handicapped access ramp is located between the Capitol and the Senate Building. Parking is available in the public lots located on the east side of the Senate Building.

Parking is also allowed along the streets around the perimeter of the Capitol unless otherwise stated by signs. School and charter buses may find parallel parking on the southbound side of East Capitol Blvd.
