3 Types of Field Trips, 1 Unforgettable Experience
Self-Guided Field Trip
Self-guided tours may be scheduled anytime during Capitol operating hours.
School groups taking self-guided tours qualify for transportation reimbursement. Please complete the Schedule Your Field Trip form to qualify.
There is no limit to the number of guests per group for self-guided tours.

Tours may be scheduled up to one year in advance.
Guided Field Trip
Guided tours begin on the hour from 10:00am to 3:00pm, Monday – Friday, with the exception of state holidays.
Guided tours are offered for fourth graders and up. Younger groups are encouraged to book self-guided tours.
No guided tours are offered November 26-November 28, 2025 and December 8, 2025 - January 2, 2026
Tours are approximately 40 to 45 minutes long.
Groups must make a tour reservation using the tour request form below to guarantee availability.

Virtual Field Trip
Virtual tours are offered over Zoom with a provided guide who will show the group each space you would see in person!
Virtual tours are offered for fourth graders and up.
Reservations are required for all virtual tours, and a tour request form must be submitted a minimum of two weeks in advance of desired date.
Virtual tours are offered for groups of 10 or more.
No virtual tours are offered January 21 - March 7, 2025, November 26-November 28, 2025, and December 8, 2025 -January 2, 2026.

Bus Funding
- Bus Funding applications will be accepted beginning Monday, August 18, 2025.
- The Capitol Preservation Board has received $250,000.00 to assist in reimbursement of transportation costs incurred by visiting the Utah State Capitol on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Educators may bring students to the Capitol during the legislative session, or anytime during the school year. Self-guided and guided field trips qualify for reimbursement of transportation costs.
- To qualify, please submit a Bus Funding application and a Schedule Your Field Trip form.

Where to have lunch on your Field Trip
School groups that would like to eat lunch at the Capitol during their visit may eat on the grassy areas of the Capitol grounds, weather permitting. During inclement weather, groups may sit on the floor to eat in the open hallways of the Capitol's first floor. Please be mindful not to block walkways and doorways.

Teacher and Visitor Activities

Parking and Entrance
Visitors should enter the Capitol through the east doors. A handicapped access ramp is located between the Capitol and the Senate Building. Parking is available in the public lots located on the east side of the Senate Building.
Parking is also allowed along the streets around the perimeter of the Capitol unless otherwise stated by signs. School and charter buses may find parallel parking on the southbound side of East Capitol Blvd.
