Utah State Capitol RotundaRotunda

The Rotunda is a beautiful and spacious venue that gives class and elegance to large gatherings and celebrations. It is a room full of history and symbolism. The Capitol dedication in 1916 and rededication in 2008 was held in this space and almost all of Utah’s past governors have walked its floor.

 Hall of GovernorsHall of Governors Utah State Capitol

The first floor of the Capitol, directly under the Rotunda, features elegant portraits of Utah’s former governors. Under the glow of the glass Rotunda floor and highlighted by historic Edison light bulbs, this large open area provides a unique setting for a variety of gatherings.

Centennial Conference Room (Previously the Multipurpose Room)

The Capitol’s Centennial Conference Room is located just inside the north entrance of the Capitol. Only steps away from the north plaza and Hall of Governors, this is one of the more spacious meeting rooms available inside the Capitol building. Please note that two square columns are located near the middle of the room, which may restrict line of sight in large event setups.

Utah State Capitol Board RoomCapitol Board Room

The Capitol Board Room is a venue capable of hosting both large and small gatherings. Lit by replicas of the original light fixtures, the room is both spacious and comfortable. A nearly life size portrait of the Capitol Commission, who directed the original design and construction of the Capitol, adds a historic touch to this elegant room.

These small conference rooms, ideally for 12-15 people, are conveniently located inside the Capitol, where all of the action is taking place. Please check each room for capacity details.

The beautifully restored Capitol grounds provide an elegant outdoor setting for any event. The immaculate lawns and plazas offer a variety of spaces from which to choose.

North PlazaUtah State Capitol North Plaza

The North Plaza is the central point of Capitol Hill and its buildings. The plaza walkways are lined with yoshino cherry trees, carefully trimmed gardens, and sculptures of historic Utah figures. A reflecting pool in the center of the plaza creates a stunning backdrop for events and photography. An accord certificate is required for each event held on the Plazas.

Utah State Capitol East PlazaEast Plaza

The East Plaza is perfect for evening events. With a complete view of Salt Lake City and the surrounding mountains, this area is sure to be the perfect location for weddings, receptions, socials and more. An accord certificate is required for each event held on the Plazas.

Utah State Capitol West PlazaWest Plaza

The West Plaza is located near the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial and the Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos Veterans War Memorial. This area is perfect for weddings, receptions, socials and more, boasting views of the southwest cityscape. An accord certificate is required for each event held on the Plazas.

The grand staircase sweeps across the South entrance of the Capitol, creating a grand setting for press conferences, rallies, and choir performances.

White Chapel

White Memorial ChapelThe White Memorial Chapel is a reproduction of an earlier chapel that was constructed in 1883. Its stunning Gothic architecture and location across the street from the State Capitol makes it an extraordinary site for weddings, memorials, and other special gatherings.   • $500 per day; $250 for rehearsal the day before function
  • Special event insurance required for use

The following items are prohibited in the White Chapel:

  • Food
  • Fresh flower petals on the ground (fresh flowers may be held and attached to pews)
  • Alcohol
  • Open flame

Event Applications

If you are interested in scheduling a room, event, or art exhibit at the Capitol, please complete and submit the appropriate application form. For more detailed information on scheduling rooms or events at the Capitol, please visit the scheduling page.

Please contact the Capitol Preservation Board at 801-410-0011 to make payments over the phone, or visit our office between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays.

Schedule an Event

The Capitol has hosted thousands of events, from free speech rallies and government meetings to choral performances and wedding ceremonies. The sprawling grounds and majestic buildings have also served as the backdrop for countless photography sessions and art exhibits. Become a part of Capitol Hill’s colorful history by hosting your next event in one of its beautiful venues.

  2. Complete and submit the appropriate event application and room diagram.
  3. Call the scheduling office to pay for your event. Please have your Visa or MasterCard ready. We cannot schedule your room without payment.
